In the summer of 2016, the City of Cincinnati experienced a unprecedented spike in heroin overdoses. As a response to a deadly week in August, the City of Cincinnati turned to data to understand the situation. Looking at the location and time of heroin overdose incident calls to emergency operators, Cincinnati Police (CPD) and Fire (CFD) are identifying "hot spots." By working with geographic, emergency response and health data from the local and state levels, the hope is to prevent future spikes.

Definition of Indicators

Incident: The type of incident (event to respond to) reported to the emergency operator. Individual incidents are grouped into descriptive categories.
Number of Incidents by Neighborhood: Number of incidents in a particular neighborhood
Hour of the day: Hour of the day (0=12:00am) when the incident occurred
Weekday: Day of the week when the incident occurred
Day of Month: Calendar day of the month when the incident occurred
Month: Number of incidents that occurred in a given month
Incident Outcome: (Disposition) The officer's report on the outcome of the response and whether it resulted in transporting a patient to the hospital
